Dr. Levente Paranici

psychiatrist · psychotherapist

My aim is not only to relieve symptoms, but to help you understand the psychological processes behind them. Medication and psychotherapy are not alternatives to each other but complementary tools – their balance is always tailored to the person and their life situation.

Areas of focus

How I can help

You are welcome to contact me with any of the following difficulties:

  • depression, persistent low mood, loss of joy and interest
  • anxiety, panic attacks, health anxiety
  • sleep problems
  • burnout, chronic stress, overload
  • life crises: loss, grief, divorce, feeling stuck
  • alcohol, medication and behavioural addictions
  • mood swings, difficulties with anger
  • self-esteem and personality-functioning difficulties
  • recurring relationship patterns
  • psychosomatic complaints

“Is my problem serious enough?” – one of the most common questions patients arrive with. My answer: if your difficulty has been present for weeks and is affecting your quality of life, that is reason enough for us to talk about it.

My approach

An integrative perspective

I combine the tools of contemporary psychiatry – careful assessment, precise diagnosis and, where indicated, individually tailored medication – with psychotherapeutic work. Psychodynamic thinking is closest to me: it asks not only about the symptom, but also about its role, history and meaning in your life. I also use well-established techniques of cognitive behavioural therapy whenever they serve the goal best.

Our work together is always individual: for some, a few consultations and well-adjusted medication are the answer; for others, a longer therapeutic process – and the two often work best combined.

“I don’t treat diagnoses, I treat people – a diagnosis is only a map for finding our way together.”

The first step

What happens at the first session?

Taking the first step is often the hardest part – so it helps to know what to expect. No referral is needed; you can request an appointment by phone or e-mail.

  1. A conversation – 50–60 minutes

Together we review what brought you here: your current complaints, their history, and your life situation. There is nothing to “prepare” – it is my job to ask the questions that help us find our bearings together.

  2. What to bring

Any previous medical documentation you may have (discharge summaries, outpatient reports), and a list of your current medications.

  3. A shared plan

At the end of the consultation we discuss my impressions and recommendations: whether medication is needed, whether psychotherapy is indicated, and how often we should meet. Decisions are always made together. You will receive the outpatient report by e-mail; the documentation is also uploaded automatically to the Hungarian electronic health record (EESZT).

  4. Confidentiality

As a physician and psychotherapist I am bound by strict professional confidentiality. What is said in the consulting room stays between us – exceptions are defined solely by law.

The space

The practice

A calm, welcoming environment in the city centre – this is the space you will arrive to.

Remote consultations

Online consultation

Online consultations are available, primarily via FaceTime or Google Meet – we choose the platform together. I recommend holding the first consultation in person where possible; in justified cases – for example, for those living abroad – the first session may also take place online.

Who is it for?

  • those living far from Nyíregyháza, including abroad
  • those whose life situation makes attending in person difficult
  • continuing ongoing therapeutic work, follow-up consultations

Good to know

  • sessions are never recorded – by either party
  • a quiet, undisturbed setting is recommended on your side as well
